Negros Oriental Guv sinks P2M more into Coopreneurship Surety Fund
by: Rachelle M. Nessia
DUMAGUETE CITY, March 24 (PIA) --- Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo
has announced that he will pour in another P2 million into the
Coopreneurship Surety Fund (CSF) program in the province in line with
the livelihood phase of of his Health, Education, Livelihood Program
(HELP).
Degamo, speaking during the 42nd General Assembly of the Dumaguete
City Credit Cooperative (DCCO) on March 19, said that the additional
funds intend to boost the small medium entrepreneurs (SMEs) and
cooperatives in the province as “they play a major role in providing
livelihood for the people here.”
“The provincial government can only do so much in providing jobs. We
need the help of the private sector and the SMEs and the cooperative
movement are major components in providing livelihood to our people,”
said the governor as qouted by Capitol Information Officer Adrian
Sedillo in an interview.
The provincial government under the administration of the late Gov.
Emilio Macias II first poured in P3 million as the province's
counterpart funds to the program initiated by the Central Bank of the
Philippines.
This was later followed by another P2 million from the late Gov.
Agustin Perdices who took over the provincial government seat after
the demise of Macias.
Sedillo said the CSF program was introduced in the province in 2010
and Negros Oriental eventually adopted the program in the same year.
“We are one of only four provinces in the country to do so,” he said.
The Fund serves as a surety cover for SMEs and cooperatives to access
loans from financial institutions without collateral and minus the
stringent requirements normally imposed on them by banks. (RMN/PIA-7
