Soldiers give free civic services to thousands of NegOr hinterland residents
by: Rachelle M. Nessia

DUMAGUETE CITY, April 12 (PIA)--- Keeping the peace and order is not the only thing that soldiers are good at. They're also good at giving back to the community by extending free medical and dental services.

This was proven true during two consecutive medical and dental missions held April 7 and 8 in the first district in Negros Oriental, Philippines during which troopers from the 11th Infantry Battalion, Philippine Army conducted community development-oriented services to thousands of residents from far-flung barangays in the area.

A statement from the 11th IB said that about 1,970 residents from two hinterland barangays availed of the battalion medical team's services such as medical consultation, circumcision, ear piercing, eye check-up, free haircut, tooth extraction and minor surgery. The residents were also given free medicines for various ailments.

This after the army unit's medical team led by Corporal Rodelito Mariano joined the group from the office of First District Rep. Jocelyn Limkaichong (who initiated the medical missions) and the local governments of Manjuyod and Bindoy towns for the two-day civic action in said villages.

Limkaichong, in a statement from 11th IB, recognized the troopers' dedication and commitment to help the local government units in delivering social services especially to far-flung barangays.

On the other hand, 11th IB Commander Lt. Col Ramil M Bitong said that the battalion and the Philippine Army will continue supporting and participating in activities that uphold peace, security and development. (RMN/PIA-7 Negros Oriental
