P20-M allocated for agricultural development in NegOr villages

DUMAGUETE CITY, April 8 (PIA) --- The provincial government is set to pour in nearly P20 million for agricultural development efforts in Negros Oriental, Philippines.
Gov. Roel Degamo, in his speech during the recent turnover ceremony of the BarangayAgricultural Development Center (BADC) to the leadership of Brgy. Balaas in Manjuyod town, said the amount will be used for the purchase of farm inputs such as seed inoculants.
A seed inoculant, according to Capitol Information Officer Adrian Sedillo, is a cost-efficient strain of trichoderma that will help convert organic fertilizers into yield-boosting elements needed by developing plants.
Sedillo said farmers in the province can avail of the seed inoculants thru their respective BADCs at no expense. Farmers will pay the cost after their harvest.
The governor has observed that seed inoculants will help farmers cut back on fertilizer and planting costs by as much as 50 percent.
Sedillo said a single pack of inoculant good for one hectare of seeds will only cost P400.
The governor also revealed in the same speech that another P1 million has been allocated for the construction of additional facilities for BADC and another half a million for the procurement of livestock such as chickens, pigs, goats and cows. (RMN/PIA-7 Negros Oriental)

Bais City spearheads Araw ng Kagitingan in NegOr

DUMAGUETE CITY, April 8 (PIA) --- The city government of Bais in Negros Oriental, Philippines is spearheading the local observation of Araw ng Kagitingan tomorrow, April 9.
The ceremony will start at 10:00 am tomorrow with a floral offering by the 42 members of theSons and Daughters of Veterans Chapter of Bais City and the three living members of thePhilippine Veterans Bais City Chapter at the Veterans Park in Bais City.
Invited to speak during the ceremony are Bais City Mayor Karen Villanueva and Second District Post Commander of the Philippine Veterans Federation in Negros Oriental, Judge Venancio Aldecoa.
Also expected to witness the activity re members of the 302nd Brigade of the Philippine Armyled by Col. Manuel Ochotorena.
According to Teddy Burgos, secretary to the Bais City Mayor, the city government has allocated funds for the ceremony following the request of the Sons and Daughters of Veterans of Bais City for funding assistance.
Similar activities honoring the valor and heroism of the Filipino war veterans will also be held simultaneously across the country tomorrow.
Pres. Benigno S. Aquino III will lead tomorrow's nationwide observation by laying wreaths at the altar of the Mt. Sama Shrine in Pilar, Bataan along with the the Ambassadors of United States and Japan.
In his message to the Filipino veterans, Pres. Aquino said that the country's history attests to the dedication of the Filipino soldiers who asserted their courage and patriotism. "We are eternally grateful to our Filipino veterans who, spurred by your
immense love for our country, have bravely fought for our nation's freedom.

PIACAT seized 6 minors illegally recruited

DUMAGUETE CITY, Apr 8 (PIA) The Provincial Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking in Persons (PIACAT) has intercepted recently six minors illegally recruited as domestic helpers in Manila in separate occasions at the airport and Dumaguete pier area.
The local Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) representative seized the five teenagers who came from the municipalities of Jimalalud and Bindoy at the seaport. They were caught when they’re about to board the ship for Manila while their recruiter keep distance.
The minors clearly looked under aged presented a tampered birth certificate to DOLE and police port.
Member of the PIACAT, the DOLE also has a regular monitoring at the pier to keep track some sugar migratory workers illegally recruited to the National Capital Region.
The other minor from Bayawan City was with her elder sister, a domestic helper in Manila to get her work too, also rescued at the airport through a coordinated call by personnel of Aviation Security Command (AVSECOM).
Meanwhile, Social Worker Inday Abrio of the Provincial Social Welfare & Development Office (PSWDO) reported another two girls who worked as househelp in Manila were sent back home to Siaton last week after they informed their mother that their employer denied them of food and slept on the floor.
The PSWDO sought help to DSWD Caloocan City where the two victims aged 16-18 worked to rescue the girls.
With the subsequent incidents, the PIACAT is closely monitoring the trafficking activities of a syndicate that may be operating in the province.
The council plans to activate the task force to monitor airports, seaports and land terminals for any human-trafficking activities.
It is observed that Negros Oriental is cited as among the usual destinations of trafficked women and children. (PIA NegOr/JCT)

Abellana welcomes local and foreign tourists to visits the village to witness and enjoy succeeding monthly celebrations of local government units (LGUs) annual fiestas with a series of programs.
To ensure that tourism, culture and arts activities are conducted year-round to make SNV a place for tourism promotion, culture and the arts in the province, Abellana said theNegros Oriental Tourism Council (NOTC) is requested to provide support in the operation and management of the SNV.
The tourism official also revealed that Governor Roel Degamo recently issued Executive Order No. 15, dated March 25, 2011, dissolving the Negros Oriental Cultural and Tourism Board and recognizing the Negros Oriental Tourism Council (NOTC), subsequently directing the NOTC to provide technical support and policy directions to make Negros Oriental a tourist destination the country.
