Tie-up eyed between two state universities in NegOr, Mindanao

DUMAGUETE CITY, June 24 (PIA) --- A stronger tie-up between two state universities in Negros Oriental and Mindanao is now being eyed.

This after the Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) invited a professor in Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) to take part in MSU-IIT's annual in-house review of research projects. 

MSU-IIT in a letter addressed to NORSU President Dr. Henry A. Sojor has invited NORSU biology professor Dr. ESther Carumbana to sit as chairperson of the panel of evaluators for the in-house review's Natural Science and Mathematics Category. 

Carumbana has also been invited to serve as resource speaker during MSU-IIT's research consortium on June 30. 

MSU-IIT Director of Research and chair, National Research Council of the Philippines, Mindanao Cluster Dr. Franco G. Teves, in a letter to NORSU president Dr. Henry A. Sojor said the visit of Carumbana will pave the way for a stronger tie-up between NORSU and MSU-IIT in various endeavors. (RMN/PIA Negros Oriental with reports from Joy Perez)

NegOr state university professor joins int'l research congress

DUMAGUETE CITY, June 24 (PIA) --- A chemistry professor of the Negros Oriental State University in Dumaguete City was one of seven participants from the Philippines who attended the 22nd Pacific Science Congress in Kuala Lumpur from June 14 to 18, 2011. 

Prof. Fraulein Cabanban Cabanag was among the 1,000 participants worldwide who took part in the five-day research congress which focused on the theme “Asia Pacific Science in the 21st Century: Meeting the Challenges of Global Change.” 

Cabanag said the congress tackled ten sessions daily discussing risk management, coastal management, biodiversity, ecology, economics, demography, chemistry, atmospheric conditions and air quality, and other environmental issues.

"It was truly a venue for collaborations among scientists and academic institutions," Cabanag said in a statement from NORSU. 

The NORSU professor is a member of the Pacific Science Association who attended the global forum upon the invitation of Dr. Ahmad Zaidee Laidin, vice president of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia, and chairman of the organizing committee, 22nd Pacific Science Congress.

The Pacific Science Congress aims to provide interdisciplinary platform for scientists from the region. It also serves as a catalyst for scientific and scholarly collaboration for new research initiatives. (RMN/PIA Negros Oriental)

Negros Oriental supports ‘PhilHealth Sabado II’ on June 25

DUMAGUETE CITY, June 23 (PIA)     The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) Dumaguete City Office has announced to hold its regular working day on Saturday, June 25 in support of the Nationwide PhilHealth Registration Day (NPRD).

Dubbed as ‘PhilHealth SabadoII. Magseguro. Magparehistro,’ a second round of enlisting parents and family members of the public school students who are not yet PhilHealth members.

Officer-in-Charge Marites Que of PhilHealth Negros Oriental said the national synchronize registration will be done in a selected public elementary school in the region.  In the case of Region 7, only Zapatera Elementary School in Cebu City as the registration site, said Que. 

However, the offices of PhilHealth Dumaguete and Bais City will be opened this Saturday to continuously cater the clients in support of the nationwide registration.

Que said her office will also accepts walk-in or new registrants on June 25, however, she advises to bring with them supporting documents for family members to be declared as their dependents, and premium payment equivalent to at least one quarter's premium of P300.

The massive registration and advocacy activity aims to bring into the National Health Insurance Program (NHIP) new registrants and ensure their access to quality health care services in its accredited health centers, clinics and hospitals.

Thus, the ‘PhilHealth Sabado II’ intends to encourage other eligible individuals to register in the individually-paying program, educate members about the benefits, rights and responsibilities and enjoin partners in mobilizing resources and ensuring universal health care coverage. (PIA NegOr/JCT)
