PARM to launch MOVE for PWDs

DUMAGUETE CITY, July 22 (PIA)  The Philippine Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine (PARM) in the Visayas will launch its advocacy campaign on keeping fit and helping persons with disabilities (PWDs) on July 24 as part of the 33rd National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week observance.

Dubbed “Making Ourselves Vigilant to Exercise or M.O.V.E. Dumaguete Run 2011,” combines a run for exercise awareness of the community while raising funds for PWDs.

According to PARM-MOVE Chair, Dr. Lynn Olegario, the activity will have a five kilometers fun run open category and three kilometers for children with disabilities (CWDs) with start to finish line at Quezon Park.  With the race director of Metro Dumaguete Roadrunners Club, Paultom Paras signals the gun start at 5:30 a.m. on Sunday.

With this initiative, MOVE expects to gather some funds through the PARM Critical Illness Fund (PARM CIF) to help for the hospitalization expenses and medical treatment of indigent PWDs.

Olegario said some 24 PWDs from the Visayas have been benefitted of the program.

Also a director of Institute of Rehabilitative Sciences-Physical Therapy Program, Silliman university, Dr. Olegario said the fun run is co-sponsored by Silliman University Physical Therapy Student Association (SUPTSA), the future health care providers of PWDs.
