Sibulan’s eggplant split recipe wins 6th Lutong Garbo culinary competition

DUMAGUETE CITY, Oct. 18 (PIA)       The eggplant split of municipality of Sibulan was declared first prize winner of the 17 menus contesting in the 6th grand cook fest ‘Buglasan Lutong Garbo’ on Saturday at the Provincial Agriculture conference hall in Dumaguete City.

The first placer chef, Angelita Licerio presented her menu with delectable and creative way of cooking eggplant.

Licerio garnered the first place award during the Lutong Garbo competition in 2006 and 2008, making her the first Buglasan Lutong Garbo grand slam title for Sibulan.

She received a cash prize of P10,000 and a trophy from Provincial Governor Roel Degamo and Committee Chair Sylvia Uy.

Whereas, bukolaknok, a combination of (buko) young coconut, squash flower (bulak) and chicken (manok) of the municipality of Jimalalud with chef Carlito Ledon got 2nd place with a cash prize of P7,000 and a trophy.

Fisherman’s delight with sweet potato roll of Amlan town with cook Marites Ebasan got the 3rd place received P5,000 with a trophy.

Other non-winners receive P2,500 as consolation prize while additional P600 was also given to all Lutong Garbo contestants as incentive coming from the personal funds of Governor Roel Degamo.

The Lutong Garbo winners were proclaimed by the Board of Judges composed of the following local culinary experts: Tina Mangon Ronato, Katherine Fontelo, and Wilfreda Villalon.

According to Sylvia Uy, also the vice-chair of the Provincial Tourism Council, the Lutong Garbo competition was a successful one so that the winner contestants can start now their own food business.  (PIA/JCT)
