DACPA joins Dumaguete charter day celebration

DUMAGUETE CITY, Nov. 21 (PIA) The Differently-Abled Children’s Parents Association (DACPA) participates in the parade on November 24 in commemoration of the 63rdCharter Anniversary of Dumaguete City.
Great Physician Rehabilitation (GPREhab Advocacy Program Coordinator Rolando Villamero Jr., said parents of differently-abled kids from the municipalities of Siaton, Zamboanguita, Dauin, Bacong, Valencia, Sibulan, and Dumaguete City convene to show their support to the people and local government unit (LGU) of Dumaguete who have been very supportive in advocating for the realization of the rights of children with disabilities.
“Aside from showing our support, we also join this parade because we want the community to see that, we, the parents of children with disabilities, are seriously fighting for the inclusion of our children into the society,” expressed DACPA President Romeo Catada.
DACPA has encouraged other parents of children with disabilities to come out in open and be inspired to work together for community advocacy on disability issues.
DACPA is an organization of parents with children with disabilities in Metro Dumaguete aims to empower parents to become advocates for their children.
The organization has three clusters based in Dumaguete City, Valencia, and Dauin. DACPA has been actively working for the realization of the rights and privileges of children with disabilities in Metro Dumaguete as exemplified in Republic Acts 7277 and 9442 or The Magna Carta for Persons With Disabilities. 2nd Visayas Blogging Summit readies on Nov. 26

DUMAGUETE CITY, Nov. 21 (PIA) All set for this year’s Visayas Blogging Summit on Nov. 26 at Trade Hall 1 of SM City Cebu.
The biggest social media gathering across the Visayas region is expected to assemble 250 bloggers, said the organizer, Bloggers Society Inc. (CBSi).
With the theme, “Blogging and Beyond”, the summit features reputable speakers in the field of social media.
The event’s keynote speaker Chris Ducker, founder of Live2Sell Group, a business process outsourcing firm working with clients around the world, as well as chief executive officer of VirtualStaffFinder.com to discuss on professional blogging, it is said.
Other speakers include Janette Toral, author of several books and research reports on social media and the Internet, who will talk about social media responsibility; Joanne Apat, director of Online Marketing and e-Business Consulting at Gwion Limited Hong Kong and Globe’s Social Media Manager Coy Caballes to share basic tips in using social media for business; and personal blogging with bloggers Vernon Joseph Go and Evanjohnn Mendoza.
CBSi gathered the support of various blogging groups and professional organizations to the 2nd Visayas Blogging Summit, including Cagayan de Oro Bloggers Inc., Davao Bloggers, Iligan Bloggers Society, Iloilo Bloggers, Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Manila Bloggers Network, Mindanao Bloggers, and Negros Bloggers. Also bloggers from Luzon and Mindanao are also invited to participate.

Visayas Blogging Summit was first organized by the Iloilo Bloggers in Iloilo City which gathered bloggers in the Visayas to talk on issues and concerns related to blogging and how to make blogging an effective tool for community development.
This year, the Visayas Blogging Summit will highlight the value of blogging as a potent tool in community development and in encouraging community participation.
CBSi has clinched partnerships with SM City Cebu, Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc., PR Works, and GeiserMaclang in staging the summit.

TOSP region7 marks its alumni community day

DUMAGUETE CITY, Nov. 21 (PIA) The Outstanding Students of the Philippines Alumni Community holds the first TOSP-AC Region VII Day on December 4 at 10:30 a.m. at the Robinson’s Place Dumaguete Main Atrium.
The event is a gathering of the Negros Oriental’s smartest college public speakers and high school debaters which aims to generate awareness of the community about the role of the youth in nation building.
The TOSP-AC Region VII Day, a community outreach and awareness initiative brings together students from all over the province to compete in Extemporaneous Speaking, several rounds of British Parliamentary Debate, Assessment of Children with Disabilities, Information Booth on Disability, Blood Pressure Taking, and Blood Glucose Monitoring, explained TOSP regional representative Rolando Villamero Jr.
This program is an important element of the Bayanitaktakan, a key project of the TOSP-AC. Through the Bayanitaktakan, the TOSP-AC aims to establish a more proactive approach on the social issues involving the youth and the community; thus, allowing them to become active community nation builders.
Villamero said, with this commitment to nation building, the TOSP-AC hopes to develop not only excellent and socially aware public speakers, debaters, and citizens but more importantly to develop excellent critical thinkers among our country’s future leaders.
This alumni community day is supported by the Youth Movement for Change (YMC) Negros Oriental, a youth organization geared towards empowering high school and college students to take part in making a difference in Negros Oriental. (PIA/JCT)
