Negor state university grads land in top 10 of criminology, midwifery board exams

DUMAGUETE CITY, Nov. 25 (PIA) --- Two graduates of the Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) made it to the Top 10 of the criminology and midwifery licensure examinations held October and November this year.

The topnotch graduates come from the NORSU Bayawan-Sta. Catalina Campus, said NORSU Information Officer Joy Perez.

Ranking seventh placer during the Criminology Licensure Examination is Bembo Palmero Palma with a rating of 89.20%.

First placer for said exam hails from Mountain Province State Polytechnic College.

According to the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), only 7,789 out of 17,804 total examinees passed the Criminologist Licensure Exam given on Oct. 22 this year.

On the other hand, Neriza Suico Patoc ranked fourth placer in the Midwife Board Examination with a rating of 87.20% while the first placer comes fromIloilo Doctors College.

In its website, PRC announced that 1,701 out of 3,756 examinees passed the Midwife Licensure Exam given this November 2011. (RMN/PIA Negros Oriental)

Dumaguete coop donates pre-school classroom to public school

DUMAGUETE CITY, Nov. 25 (PIA) --- Public school Herminigilda F. Gloria Elementary School in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental was recently the recipient of a newly-built pre-school classroom donated by the Dumaguete Cathedral Credit Cooperative (DCCCO). 

DCCCO turned over the classroom worth P500,000 during a ceremony held Nov. 23, 2011 attended by Dumaguete City Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria, City Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Ramir Uytico, and DCCCO Chairman of the Board of Directors and City Administrator William Ablong.

During the turn-over, the mayor lauded DCCCO’s donation, saying that it will improve the education program in the city.

Ablong said the move is in line with the cooperative’s aim of serving the community. “The entire community is responsible for molding the minds of these young people so they may become the future leaders of our country,” he said.

He added that DCCCO’s mission is to provide “competitive and sustainable financial and other services to uplift the quality of life of its members and the community.”

DCCCO is a community-based cooperative in Dumaguete City organized on Feb. 17, 1968 with total assets now pegged over P1 billion as of December 2010. (RMN/PIA Negros Oriental with reports from Hyacinth Ann Antonio)

Global media event set in Boracay

DUMAGUETE CITY, Nov. 25 (PIA) --- Journalists and other media entities from around the globe are expected to gather in Boracay Island, Aklan on December 8 to 10, 2011 for the joint Global Media Forum and16th National Press Congress collectively dubbed the “Boracay Island Global Media Convention.”

Around 500 journalists and other media-related personalities worldwide are expected to take part in the convention that aims to provide a venue for the media industry workers to discuss and learn from experts and thinkers from and outside the industry the insights, ideas, strategies, measures and innovations required to keep the publishing industry moving forward, said Juan Dayang, president of the Publishers Association of the Philippines, Inc. (PAPI).

With the theme “The Changing Face of Asian Media”, the convention is a consolidated media event conducted by PAPI and the Boracay Global Press Corps (BGPC) to mark the observance of National Press Congress Month and the Month of the Community Press this December under Presidential Proclamation No. 1187.

“The convention will feature roundtable discussions, commission group sessions and plenary sessions wherein relevant issues centering on media development, viability and sustainability, among others, will be brought to the fore,” said Dayang in a letter.

He added that the conference will revolve around some of the main levers required to move the industry forward, including repositioning and branding, new business and revenue models, digital platforms and revenues, investments, modern leadership, technology and sustainability.

Speakers from the United Nations and other established institutions have been invited to discuss key issues during the three-day event.

Invited participants include local and foreign media executives, publishers, broadcasters, editors, writers, photojournalists,  book authors, campus writers, editors and advisers, journalists from the academe including those engaged in advertising, marketing, corporate communication, online publishing, information technology, IT educators, public information officers, printing technologists and other allied professionals.
