By Rachelle M. Nessia

DUMAGUETE CITY, Dec. 18 (PIA) --- In what can be described as an early Christmas present, First District Board Member Dr. Liland Zoila Estacion donated one computer set to a remote school in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental.

The computer set with accessories was delivered to Hinakpan Elementary School in Brgy. Hinakpan, Guihulngan City by troopers from the 11th Infantry (Lapu-Lapu) Battalion of the Philippine Army on Dec. 14, 2011.

The soldiers led by 1Lt. Von Ryan Gomez from said battalion handed the donation over Hinakpan Elementary School Teacher-in-Charge Bebian Morales.

Hinakpan Elementary School is one of the farthest primary schools in Negros Oriental. It straddles the boundaries of Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental and can be reached through rough and rugged roads, according to a statement from 11th IB.

During the turnover,  Morales thanked Estacion and the 11th IB soldiers for facilitating the delivery of the computer set to their school.

Lapu-Lapu Battalion Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Ramil Bitong lauded Estacion as well as he stressed that education is a vital key not only to peace and development but also against poverty and illiteracy.

“The teachers are our formidable partners in our peace and security efforts,” he said. (RMN/PIA Negros Oriental with reports from 1Lt. Von Ryan Gomez)
