AFP awards ONCAN for counterinsurgency role

DUMAGUETE CITY, Jan. 7 (PIA)   The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) awarded Oriental Negros Children’s Advocacy Network (ONCAN) recently for its contribution to the success of counterinsurgency project “Bayanihan”.

ONCAN president Baby Jambora received personally the plaque along with the twenty awardees during the AFP Bayanihan Awards Night held recently at the Armed Forces Commissioned Officers Club at Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.

Also honored were Jocelyn Limkaichong of the 1st District of Negros Oriental and  Bohol Gov. Edgar Chatto.

Jambora said the AFP has a long list of organizations and individuals as partners in its quest to win the peace for the Filipino people. However, she added the AFP chief Lt. Gen. Jessie Dellosa thanked all its partners for its contribution but had to pick only 20.

The AFP recognized ONCAN and Rep. Limkaichong for their invaluable support to the AFP in the implementation of the IPSP Bayanihan in the province of Negros Oriental.

Gen. Dellosa said ONCAN’s support for the Bayanihan utilizes its vast networking with other agencies enables the project achieved for the welfare of the poor and needy children not only in the urban areas of Dumaguete City, but also in the poor barangays province-wide.

With this, it helped address the problem of poverty and inadequate services, a unifying act that effectively address the basic and core issues as envisioned in the “whole of nation” approached espoused by IPSP Bayanihan, said Dellosa.


The nominees were recommended by the AFP major services, unified commands and wide service support and separate units. The shortlist of nominees was subjected to a screening process before the list of Bayanihan awardees was finalized. (PIA/JCT)

Army, PMA offer free medical services to Sendong victims in Dumaguete City

DUMAGUETE CITY, Jan. 7 (PIA)   More than 80 army personnel have responded immediately for medical assistance and relief operation in support to the Philippine Medical Association (PMA) for victims of tropical storm Sendong in Negros Oriental.


The military team led by 302nd Brigade Commander, Col. Francisco Patrimonio provided security, transportation and manpower assistance to the simultaneous medical consultations, distribution of medicines and relief operations conducted by PMA.

Almost two weeks after the typhoon Sendong hit Dumaguete City and some parts of Negros Oriental, volunteer health practitioners joined hands in giving assistance for free medical consultations, medicines and distributions of relief goods.

The free medical services also include check-up, eye examination, minor surgery and food distribution.

At least 1,580 resident-victims of typhoon Sendong  have benefited the free medical services last week in  eight most affected barangays in Dumaguete City namely; Barangays of Candau-ay, Batinguel, Junob, Cadawinanon, Tabok Tubig, Poblacion 8, Bagacay Dapdap and Bagacay Gumamela.

Col. Patrimonio said that the Philippine Army particularly the 302 Brigade is always ready to extend their assistance in times of disaster like typhoon Sendong.


He added that the calamity is a clear manifestation that the spirit of Bayanihan among Filipino people is very crucial. “We encourage the Negrenses to be united and work together for the safety and well-being of everybody”, said Col. Patrimonio.

Participating agencies and groups of the medical mission include Negros Oriental Provincial and City Health, Department of Social Welfare and Development, National Telecommunications Commission, Federation of Volunteers thru Radio Communications, Sto Nino Augustinian Development Foundation, among others. DUMAGUETE CITY , Jan. 7 (PIA) – At least 1,580 residents-victims of typhoon Sendong   received free medical and relief operation services recently in eight most affected barangays in Dumaguete City namely; Barangays of Candau-ay, Batinguel, Junob, Cadawinanon, Tabok Tubig, Poblacion 8, Bagacay Dapdap and Bagacay Gumamela.
