DUMAGUETE CITY, March 8 (PIA) -- A total of 36 jobseekers in Negros Oriental were hired on the spot during the recruitment activities (for local and overseas job placement) held in Dumaguete City since January this year.
Of the said figure, 29 were hired for overseas work and seven for local employment.
“There a good number more that were hired as welders in Qatar and nurses for Hongkong and Malaysia but we don’t have the figures for now,” said Nanette Tindoc, focal person of the Provincial Public Employment Service Office (PESO).
Between January until March 6, this year, the provincial PESO has facilitated five special recruitment activities (SRA) for overseas work of which 403 applicants participated.
There were four recruitment agencies held in the same period for local employment with a turnout of 27 applicants.
Tindoc is requesting job applicants to submit their resume, transcript of records, and certificates of employment to PESO office for possible job matching.
The Provincial PESO is located at the lobby of Mariano Perdices Coliseum, Capitol Area, this city. (RMN/PIA Negros Oriental)

Comelec to hold PWDs voters registration in NegOr cities
By Rachelle M. Nessia
DUMAGUETE CITY, March 9 (PIA) -- The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will conduct a special voters’ registration for persons with disabilities (PWD) on March 10, 2012. Qualified to register are PWDs aged 18 years old and above in five cities in Negros Oriental.
The said voters’ registration for PWDs will be held simultaneously in the cities of Bayawan, Dumaguete, Tanjay, Bais and Canlaon.
Comelec is holding the special registration in coordination with the Social Welfare and Development Offices in said cities.
“This day will be exclusively for PWDs to be registered as voters,” said Hazel Aurea, certified voters list technician at the Comelec provincial office here.
Requirements for registration include a valid ID card or birth certificate. Aurea also urged the registrants to bring ball pen for faster processing of documents.
The special registration in Dumaguete City will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the PWD Training Center beside the City Social Welfare and Development Office along Rizal Boulevard, according to an advisory from Dumaguete City Handicapped Association President Aladdin Rosalinas.
Aurea explained that the special registration is also done to make COMELEC’s services accessible to the PWDs.
“For example in Dumaguete City, the PWDs have to climb up to the second floor of the Public Market building where the COMELEC office is located. On March 10, we are holding the registration in venues that will be easy for them to access,” she said.
Comelec is appealing for PWDs in said cities to sign up and be counted in view of the low turnout of registrants in last year’s voters registration.
“In our province-wide registration for PWDs last year, only very few of them showed up,” said Aurea.
Comelec has earlier announced a Visayas-wide PWD satellite registration for this month in provinces covered by Regions 6, 7 and 8.
A report released by Vera Files said that based on Comelec records, the provinces of Western Samar, Negros Oriental, Leyte, Capiz, Cebu, Northern Samar, Bohol, Antique, Eastern Samar, Aklan and Iloilo are among the top 30 provinces with the highest registered PWD voters as of July 2011.
