DUMAGUETE CITY, July 19 (PIA) --- The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines' (NGCP) held camp defense drills in Negros Oriental and Negros Occidental provinces to beef up the defense measures of NGCP’s security group in the Negros island.
The latest drill was held on May 15, 2012 at the Kabankalan Substation in Negros Occidental in partnership with the 47th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army.
This is in support of an earlier drill held at the Amlan substation in Negros Oriental sometime in the third quarter of 2011, according to Elmer D. Cruz, NGCP Public Affairs Officer.
The drill Amlan, which assumed an “armed attack” scenario, was held in coordination with the 7th Regional Public Safety Battalion, said Cruz.
Cruz said the drills are done nationwide to maintain the level of readiness of NGCP's security guard force.
It also aims to improve the inter-operability of the company guards with units of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police.
Cruz said the NGCP regularly coordinates its security efforts with local authorities and communities where their substations are located.
“This is in line with our commitment to secure the people and the country's transmission facilities to ensure continuous power delivery services especially during times of emergencies,” said Cruz.
NGCP is a privately-owned corporation in charge of operating, maintaining, and developing the country’s power grid.
It transmits high-voltage electricity through “power superhighways” that include the interconnected system of transmission lines and towers, substations and related assets. (RMN/PIA Negros Oriental)
