DOST opens new set college scholarships
DUMAGUETE CITY, Aug 16 (PIA) --The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) through the Science Education Institute (SEI) is once again looking for a new set of scholars for 2013.
Under RA 7687 scholarship program, DOST-SEI will award Bachelor of Science degree scholarships to poor but deserving natural-born Filipino students to pursue priority fields of study in science, mathematics and engineering.
The department will also award scholarships to students with high aptitude in science and mathematics and willing to pursue fields of science and technology or the Merit Scholarship Program as well.
DOST Provincial Director Gilbert Arbon said the aspiring scholars will receive subsidies on tuition and other school fees, book allowance, monthly living allowance for 10-to-11 month duration every year.
DOST-SEI Merit scholars receive the same benefits as the RA 7687 scholars except for a pro-rated monthly stipend depending on the family's socio-economic status.
The list of priority sciences in which the scholars can enroll are: Agriculture, Agricultural Biotechnology, Agricultural Chemistry, Agricultural Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Applied Physics, Biochemistry, Biology; Ceramics Engineering, Chemistry with Applied Computer System, Chemistry with Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering Electronics and Communications Engineering.
It also include Environmental Science, Fisheries, Food Technology, Forestry, Geology, Geodetic Engineering, Geological Science and Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Information Technology, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Physics, Physics with Applied Computer System, Physics with Materials Science and Engineering, Science/Mathematics Teaching and Statistics.
The applicant is required to submit the following: 1) accomplished application form; 2) two copies of 1”x1” applicant’s photo; 3) photocopy of birth certificate; 4) parents’ proof of income, clear photocopy of 2011 Income Tax Returns or W2 form of parent working under an employer or self-employed; BIR certification of exemption from filing of ITR; certification of non-employment /indigency duly signed by barangay chairman and 5) assessment form/statement of account from the private school/scholarship certification.
Arbon said the scholarship program has been the DOST's commitment to uphold the oath of President Benigno Aquino III to support the expansion of scholarships granted to outstanding yet underprivileged students.
Deadline for the filing of application forms will be on October 5. The date of examination will be on November 18 at 7 a.m. in the Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) main campus in Dumaguete City. (mbcn/JCT-PIA7 Negros Oriental)
