DOST’s scholarships for junior college students now open

DUMAGUETE CITY, Aug 2 (PIA) -- The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in Negros Oriental is now accepting applicants for this year’s Junior Level Science Scholarships (JLSS).
All regular third year college students enrolled in the identified Science & Technology (S&T) courses in Silliman University and Negros Oriental State University for the school years 2012-2013 are urged to apply for the scholarship.
Applicant must have a general weighted average of 83 percent and has no failing grade in any subject; not a recipient of any other government or private scholarship; have no pending applications for immigration abroad; physically and mentally healthy and morally upright; and a resident of the city or municipality in the last four years.
The scholarships cover two programs under RA 7687, whose applicant belongs to a family with socio-economic status does not exceed the set values of all the identified indicators as approved by the Advisory Committee on the S&T Scholarships and Merit Scholarship for applicant who belongs to a family whose socio-economic status exceeds the set values of any of the identified indicators.
Qualified applicants must submit the following requirements: two recent 1”x1” ID picture; copy of grades obtained during the first two years in college duly certified by the registrar/dean/department head.
Included in the requirements are the photocopy of their parents’ income tax return for CY 2011 or original copy of tax exemption certification from the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) if parents are non-tax filers or certification of non-employment duly signed by the municipal mayor or barangay official; clear copy of electric bills for the months of May, June and July 2012; clear copy of applicant’s birth certificate and fully accomplished application forms.
The duly accomplished application form and requirements are to be submitted to the DOST-Provincial Science and Technology Center, #24 Yakal St., Daro, Dumaguete City (near old Daro Market) on or before August 24.
Date of examination will be on September 22 in all identified test centers. Applicants identified as Merit must pay a non-refundable fee of P200 upon application.
