NSO sets to survey agri, fishery sectors in over 500 barangays in Negros Oriental

DUMAGUETE CITY, Aug 30 (PIA) -- The National Statistics Office (NSO), Negros Oriental is set to conduct a survey on agriculture and fisheries to establish a registry system for basic sectors in agriculture in 557 barangays in the province. 

NSO Officer-in-Charge Statistician Ariel Fortuito said a total of 297,606 household provincewide will be surveyed starting from September 17 to November 9 this year. 

Fortuito said the nationwide registration of all farmers, farm laborers and fishermen is one of the key programs of the Cluster of Good Governance and Anti-Corruption of the government. 

This involves the creation of a database of the concerned target groups that will help enable the appropriate identification of the rightful beneficiaries of agriculture and fisheries-related program of the government, said NSO official. 

This study creates a database or master list of farmers, farm laborers and fishermen. The data to be gathered will be used for economic planning, decision and policy making for economic development of the country. 

The 20-day survey needs 901 field enumerators to interview households’ agricultural activities in every barangay, said Fortuito 

The NSO is now on the third provincial level training on September 3-7 for each 25 local government operations officers, municipal agriculturists, planning and development coordinators, local civil registrars, assistant registration area supervisors and representatives from other line agencies. 

This will be followed by another training with the city and municipal level of officials on September 10 -13 before the survey starts on September 17. 

The Department of Budget and Management, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Agrarian Reform and the NSO had entered an agreement to collaborate in the realization of this project. (mbcn/JCT-PIA7 Negros Oriental)

Sibulan to benefit from Pantawid Pamilya program

DUMAGUETE CITY, Aug 30 (PIA) -- The municipality of Sibulan is among the newest additions to the growing roster of local government units in Region 7 covered by the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps). 

This was revealed in a letter sent by Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 7 Director Evelyn Macapobre to Sibulan Mayor Marcela Grampon-Bartoces. 

Dir. Macapobre said that 1,241 potential households in Sibulan have been identified for the 4Ps program. 

“These households were considered potential beneficiaries after meeting the requirements of eligibility such as residents of the poorest municipality, having child/children (aged) 0 to 14 years old, pregnant household member at the time of the assessment and households whose economic condition is equal to or below the provincial poverty threshold,” she said. 

Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino program is the national government’s human development program implemented by DSWD through the conditional cash transfer scheme for the health and education of poor households across the country. 

Registration and validation of the potential beneficiaries in Sibulan will be scheduled with the LGU expected to come up with a 100 percent attendance rate of said beneficiaries. 

“This is the final step for their inclusion in the program,” said Dir. Macapobre. 

Sibulan Information Officer Connie Rosales said an orientation on the program for the town’s beneficiaries is scheduled to be held on the first week of September. 

“This activity will discuss vital information on the project, the schedule of the registration and organization of working teams for the community assembly and registration,” said Rosales. 

The final list of the program’s beneficiaries will be posted after the orientation. 

Sibulan is a 4th class municipality in Negros Oriental with a population of 51,519 based on the 2010 census. It has 15 barangays and is bordered to the south by Dumaguete City, the province’s capital. (RMN-PIA7 Negros Oriental)

Negros Oriental State University produces 13 new geologists

DUMAGUETE CITY, Aug 30 (PIA) -- Thirteen examinees from Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) passed the Licensure Exam for Geologists conducted by the Philippine Regulatory Commission in Manila on August 14 to 16. 

Of the total passers, six are from Negros Oriental, five from Mindanao and one each from Cebu and Negros Occidental. 

There were 33 examinees from NORSU who took the licensure exam, according to NORSU Department Chair of Physics and Geology Eduardo Iso. 

NORSU’s passing rate is at 39 percent. The national passing rate for said exam is at 55 percent with 78 passers out of 142 who took the exam. 

The six new geologists from Negros Oriental are Eshe Sena Rillos Absin of La Libertad, Randyson MariƱo Awid of Bayawan City, Jun Rey Sabanal Buagas of Tayasan, Mary Grace Sayre Cubalan of Valencia, Joey Elnar De Vera of Dauin and Ferdinand Bravo Lobino of Pamplona. 

From Mindanao, the five new geologists are Marlon Azuelo Calamohoy of Diplahan, Zamboanga Sibugay, Kim Balsomo Gahisan of Dipolog City, Eve Willa May Dalmacio Macute of Dipolog City, Al Rey Sale Notarion of Calamba, Misamis Occidental and Jayrald Elvina Sajulga of Diplahan, Zamboanga Sibugay. 

The remaining two passers are Martin Ajito Lamanilao III of Lapulapu City and Rhyza Ruth Tellano Parcon of Orong, Kabankalan City. (RMN-PIA7 Negros Oriental, with reports from Dr. Joy Perez)
