NegOr’s Buglasan Lutong Garbo sets for the grand cook match

DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental, Sept 19 (PIA) -- A touch of Fiesta sa Nayon, this year’s seventh Buglasan Lutong Garbo cook fest is set to be held at Sidlakang Negros Village at 2 p.m. on October 13. 

Over P70,000 is up for grabs for the local culinary talents who will join the indigenous cooking competition among the participants from various local government units (LGU) in Negros Oriental. 

Lutong Garbo Committee Chair Sylvia Uy has enjoined the LGUs who have completed their respective cooking competitions to submit their entries before the end of September. 

Uy said this food festival promotes Negros Oriental’s native cuisine in celebration with the Buglasan Festival of festivals which showcases what the province has to offer to tourists. 

Winners for this competition will all receive a trophy and P10,000 for the first prize; P7,000 for the second prize and the third placer gets P5,000. 

For non-winners, consolation prize of P2,500 cash and certificates of appreciation will be awarded by the Lutong Garbo Competition committee. 

The Lutong Garbo is open to all Negrenses but duly endorsed by the local executives. The contestant is required to cook a recipe good for 10 persons. 

All participants of the cooking contest must wear appropriate white cooking attire with hair bonnet and provide his or her own cooking utensils and equipment. These will be inspected including the ingredients before the cooking time. 

The main dish or recipe entry must feature ingredients indigenous to the area represented as part of the criteria of the contest; and the use of ingredients such as monosodium glutamate, canned goods, imported products, and artificial seasonings are not allowed. 

The contestants are given 15 minutes to prepare, marinate and set up ingredients and an hour to cook and present per main dish. 

Food preparation will be judged according to the following criteria: palatability, 40 percent; originality, 40 percent; texture, 10 percent and dish presentation, 10 percent. (MBCN/JCT-PIA7 Negros Oriental)

Negros Oriental’s Buglasan Festival 2012 presents 87 events

DUMAGUETE CITY, Sept. 18 (PIA) --This year’s Negros Oriental Buglasan Festival of Festivals will have three venues for the 87 events calendared on a two-week celebration in October. 

Negros Oriental Tourism Council (NOTC) Chair Nick Elman said the main events will be spread out at Freedom Park, Sidlakang Negros Village and Rizal Boulevard to decongest the huge crowd. 

For now, organizers are busy preparing for the biggest event, the Buglasan Festival, one of the Philippines most colorful festivals, which will commence on October 12 with daily activities and programs until October 21. 

Festival of festivals showdown, street dance, and king and queen on October 19, Friday serve as the festival highlights. 

Local government units’ booths at the Freedom Park and Sidlakan Negros Village will be set up as a part of the venues celebration along with the corporate booths and an array of mini restaurants for food. 

Showdown and street dancing represents local fiestas in municipalities and affords an opportunity for the public to witness the colorful activities in one place at one time, which will be routed along Dumaguete’s main thoroughfares and presentation per contingent at the Lamberto Macial Sports and Cultural Center. 

Elman said portalets will be placed in major sites of the festival to keep the areas clean and sanitation, including the implementation of anti-plastic and no smoking ordinances during the Buglasan period. 

This year’s Buglasan Festival annual celebration banners the theme “Negros Oriental: Gearing Towards Sustainable Growth,” which the organizer is working doubly hard to make the province competitive and push the local tourism industry. (mbcn/JCT/PIA-Negros Oriental)
