By Rachelle M. Nessia

DUMAGUETE CITY, Oct. 9 (PIA) -- The provincial government recently bought new bulldozers to step up not only its disaster preparedness efforts but also boost its construction projects.

Infrastructure projects now being implemented by the provincial government have been designed with disaster risk reduction and management in mind, according to Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) Executive Officer and Capitol Information Officer Adrian Sedillo.

The newly bought equipment were purchased using the calamity fund of the provincial government from 2010, 2011 and 2012.

“The Provincial Engineer’s Office crafts the infrastructure projects with the foresight on the possible damages a natural disaster can bring to facilities in an area,” said Sedillo.

He added that the bulldozers will replace the old bulldozers owned by the provincial government and used by the engineering mobile teams earlier formed for each of the three districts in the province.

Sedillo said that based on records, eight more heavy equipment are needed to fully implement the engineering mobile team projects in the districts.

Early this year, the provincial government acquired five new heavy equipment which are now being used in the rehabilitation efforts of damaged infrastructure by Typhoon Sendong and the 6.9-magnitude earthquake in February this year. (RMN/PIA Negros Oriental)
