NegOr to host Miss Earth 2012

DUMAGUETE CITY, Nov 13 (PIA) -- The local governments of Negros Oriental and Dumaguete City are preparing to host the fashion show event of 15 international beauty queens for Miss Earth 2012.
The Miss Earth beauties will visit Negros Oriental on November 17-18 to promote and advocate environmental causes and issues. This annual environmental event is participated in by 80 to 90 beauty queens from all over the world who became known as “beauties for a cause”.
This year, the province of Negros Oriental is one of the host venues for the world’s pageant fashion show on November 18 at 8 p.m. at the Lamberto Macias Sports Center.
The reigning Miss Earth Olga Alava of Ecuador leads the 15 Miss Earth international candidates for the evening gown and resort wear presentation.
On November 17, before the night of fashion and glamour, the beauties will join the Dumaguete City Sandurot Festival parade around the city at 2 p.m., followed by a public presentation and mall tour at Robinsons Place at 4 p.m.
The occasion will also be highlighted by tree planting at the Energy Development Corporation (EDC) in an effort to save Mother Earth. (mbcn/JCT-PIA Negros Oriental)

NegOr state university gets 100% passing rate in mechanical engineering board exam

DUMAGUETE CITY, Nov. 13 --The Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) achieved a 100% passing rate during the recent Mechanical Engineering Licensure Examination held Sept. 23 to 24 in Cebu City.
NORSU Information Officer Joy Perez revealed that there were eight total examinees from the university’s College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA) who took the licensure exam.
“All of them passed as compared to the national passing percentage rate of 69.86 percent,” said Perez.
Of the total 2,900 examinees nationwide, 2,026 passed the licensure exam, she added.
CEA Dean Josef Vil Villanueva said that as of the eight new engineers, seven are from the province of Negros Oriental and one from Cebu.
For the past five consecutive years, NORSU’s CEA mechanical engineering have achieved a100% passing percentage in the licensure exams.
The new mechanical engineers this year are: Rolando C. Barba, Dumaguete City; Jeffrey B. CaƱolas, Sta. Catalina; Ched F. Rombines, Bayawan City; Dick Oliver G. Eguac, Santader, Cebu; Gino Z. Katada, Dumaguete City; Bhonhamm B. Magsayo, Sibulan; Rea M. Rodriguez, Tanjay City; Bevic Butch A. Cule, Bais City.
Meanwhile, Perez also disclosed that NORSU’s Certified Public Accountancy (CPA) examiners achieved a 91.76% passing rate during the CPA licensure exam this year.
The national passing rate for the CPA exam is at 47.78%.
Dr. Silveria Ochotorena, dean of NORSU’s College of Business and Accountancy said that 11 out of 13 passed the CPA Licensure Exam recently held in Manila.
Of the 13, seven are from Negros Oriental, three are from Zamboanga del Norte and one from Basilan.
