Carnapping of motorcycles in NegOr increases
By Jennifer C. Tilos

DUMAGUETE CITY, Jan 8 (PIA) -- The Highway Patrol Group (HPG) in Negros Oriental said 26 motorcycles were reported missing in the province from April to November of 2012.

During a peace and order council meeting, National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agent Dominador Cimafranca expressed his concern over the increased number of lost motorcycles in Dumaguete City.

Cimafranca reported that eight motorcycles were already missing in the middle of December last year.

Cimafranca said both the HPG and NBI have to coordinate closely and relentlessly conduct the campaign against carnapping to ensure that criminal elements involved will have no opportunity to operate in the province.

To tighten security measures in the highway, an HPG Force multiplier is newly organized and dubbed “Seize Trooper,” HPG Negros Orinetal Provincial Chief Police Superintendent Gregorio Galsim said.

Galsim also reported that two motor vehicles, one white vanette and Hyundai Grace van were impounded due to tampered chassis or engine during its operations.

To address the growing problem on carnapping cases in the province, the patrol group closely coordinated with some local government units and national agencies, authorizing them to enforce and apprehend within Dumaguete City using the citation ticket; to operate at Bais City using traffic operators permit (TOP) approved by Land Transportation Office Regional Director Raul Aguilos III; and to conduct inspection inside the port with approval of the port manager Annie Lee Manese, said Galsim.

The patrol group also assisted motorists on traffic accidents on highways. (FCR/JCT/PIA- Negros Oriental)
