NOPPO holds criminal investigation training
by Jennifer Catan-Tilos
DUMAGUETE CITY, Sept. 6 (PIA) The Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office (NOPPO) has conducted a criminal investigation course for its personnel and officers this week on at the provincial headquarters.
Philippine National Police (PNP) Provincial Director, Police Sr. Supt. Rey Lyndon Lawas said that out of 138 police investigators in the province only 22 have undergone formal training on investigation.
In a Kapihan sa Philippine Information Agency (PIA), Col. Lawas said there is a need to enhance and strengthen skills and capabilities of policemen in crime investigation matters.
“The core function of a police is intelligence investigation, thus, enough knowledge should be provided to handle proper procedures on crime examination,” said Col. Lawas.
Nevertheless, the provincial director reported that Negros Oriental has a decreasing trend of crime volume from January to July, this year.
With this, records showed that the province ranks third among the four provinces in Central Visayas.
But still, the police director urged the local government units (LGUs) to invest on security aspect and not only development projects, as peace and development go together.
Meanwhile, Chief of Police Col Crisaleo Tolentino of Dumaguete City has called on parents to monitor their children activities to avoid commission of crimes among the youths.
“The police cannot be everywhere and the number of policemen is less against the increasing population,” said Col Tolentino.
The Kapihan forum highlights the observance of the 17th National Crime Prevention Week on September 1-7 which discussed this year’s theme “PiNoy Ako, Crime Prevention Misyon Ko!” which promote the community and youth involvement and participation in crime prevention. (PIA NegOr/JCT)
