DUMAGUETE CITY, July 3 (PIA) -- Running and dancing enthusiasts in Negros Oriental are invited to join the “Barya Para Sa Kalikasan” Fun Run and Fun Dance spearheaded by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Dumaguete Branch.
The event will be held on July 7, 2012 (Saturday) at 5 a.m.
The activity is a fund-raising project aimed at promoting BSP’s local environmental programs and its National Coin Recirculation and Clean Note Policy Program.
Registration is ongoing from July 2 to 5 at the BSP Dumaguete Branch office along North Road, Daro, this city.
Participants may choose from the following two registration options: P50 worth of low denomination coins starting at P1 down to 1 centavo coins, or on-site registration of P100 in banknotes or coins.
According to Divina Salve of the BSP local branch, the first 350 registrants will receive a gift item from BSP.
The Fun Run and Fun Dance will kick-off with a public viewing of BSP’s audio-visual presentations and infomercials, and a briefing on the “Barya Para Sa Kalikasan” activity.
This will be followed by a 1.5-km run starting from the Freedom Park in front of Capitol building and will end at the Perdices Coliseum Oval grounds where the Fun Dance will be held.
“Partner organizations shall have a group of dancers to lead some dance moves during the fun dance,” a statement from BSP here said.
Prizes and awards will also be given away to the participants as well as raffle draws.
Salve added that the event hopes to generate awareness on the importance of coins and the need to use and recirculate them.
Funds raised during the event will be used to support BSP’s tree planting activities in riverbank areas in the province and the recycling initiatives and conduct of intensive public information campaigns on proper waste segregation and disposal here.
It will also be used to augment the production of reef domes and mangrove propagules which will be placed at the Silliman Beach area in Dumaguete City and some areas in the province.
Said activity is held in coordination with the 350.org, Bankers Club of Negros Oriental, and Metro Dumaguete Road Runners Club (MDRC).
