DUMAGUETE CITY, Nov. 23 (PIA) -- The construction of the Out-Patient Department building at the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital (NOPH) will be completed before the year ends to serve a greater number of clients in the province.
This was revealed by Provincial Health Officer Dr. Dante Domingo in a report to Gov. Roel Degamo.
The construction is currently on the final phase with the installation of fixtures like aircon, water, and drainage system, said Adrian Sedillo, capitol information officer.
The governor also ordered to expedite measures to repair the modern equipment at the imaging and diagnostic department of NOPH.
Said equipment, particularly the Magentic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and the mammogram, were earlier damaged as a result of the ongoing construction of the OPD building.
“The equipment were affected by the construction work, especially during the times when the welding machine had to be used; this damaged the UPS of the equipment,” explained Capitol Information Officer Adrian Sedillo.
Sedillo said the governor plans to procure a new UPS unit, especially since there are many NOPH clients who need to avail of the MRI and the mammogram. (RMN-PIA 7, Negros Oriental)

DUMAGUETE CITY, Nov. 23 (PIA) -- A team of more than 15 doctors from Manila will visit Negros Oriental for a series of activities to mark the provincial celebration of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) Day.
The team of medical doctors and physical therapists are from the Philippine Orthopedics Center, Philippine Orthopedic Pastoral Care and the Physicians for Peace.
The team is led by Rev. Fr. Arnold Abelardo, chaplain of the Philippine Orthopedics Center, and Dr. Josephine Robredo-Bondoc.
The team will conduct the “Alay sa mga PWDs (Amputees)” activity on Nov. 30 at the Negros Oriental Convention Center where more than 100 amputees will be measured for fitting of prosthetic legs.
The Philippine Orthopedic Center is set to donate free prosthetic legs to identified amputees in the province.
“PWDs who were measured during the initial fitting done last July will still have to show up during the Nov. 30 activity since it’s the doctors from the Center that will conduct the measuring this time,” said Provincial Public Employment Services Office (PESO) Focal Person Jose Benedicto Ramon.
The prosthetic legs will be turned over to the beneficiaries by February next year, he said.
During the People’s Congress on the same day, Fr. Abelardo is expected to give a message, along with Gov. Roel Degamo, and Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region 7 Director Atty. Gloria A. Tango, CESO IV.
“Atty. Tango, in her talk, will focus on the livelihood program offered by DOLE through the PESO,” said Benedicto.
Simultaneous to the People’s Congress is a medical mission at the Lamberto Macias Sports Center wherein local doctors and physical therapists from the Philippine Orthopedic Center will extend various medical services.
Benedicto said that eyeglasses will be given for free to the first 100 clients. (RMN/PIA Negros Oriental)
