DTI to motorists: No more forms needed for sticker marking
By Rachelle M. Nessia

DUMAGUETE CITY, Nov. 15 (PIA) -- Motorists will no longer need to present an application form when applying for sticker marking of their motorcycle helmet at the office of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) here starting November 5, 2012.

This was announced by DTI in its latest advisory issued November 8.

“Motorists will only need to present a valid government-issued ID such as driver’s license, and the helmet itself for inspection,” DTI’s Trade and Industry Development Specialist Chief Angeline Gonzalez said.

DTI is also reminding consumers with old helmets to visit their office and have their helmets inspected for ICC marking on or before November 30, 2012.

Motorists may also inquire with DTI office for the updated list of helmets and visors that are ICC-certified brands and the list of international standards.

Under the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2010 or RA 10054, motorists are required to wear either a half-face helmet with clear visor or a full-face helmet with a clear visor.

Motorcycle riders who fail to wear the prescribed helmet will be penalized P1,500 for the first offense and P3,000 for the second offense.

Those found wearing sub-standard helmets also face a P3,000 fine.

During random roadside inspections, enforcers will look for the Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) sticker which DTI affixes at the back of helmets that passed their inspection. (RMN/PIA Negros Oriental)
