Army troopers donate blood to PNRC

DUMAGUETE CITY, Dec. 12 (PIA) -- Some 16 military personnel of the 302nd Brigade and members of the Civilian Auxiliary Force Geographical Units (CAFGU) has donated some 7,200 centiliters (cc) of different blood types to the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) based in Dumaguete City.
Capt Anacito Naz, army’s information officer said the bloodletting activity is in line with the celebration of the 77th Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) anniversary on December 21, this year.
The celebration highlights bloodletting with the theme, “Making a difference with a single drop of blood”.
The Army’s 302nd Brigade covers the whole provinces of Negros Oriental and Siquijor and the 5th District of Negros Occidental where some troops attended the said activity with its brigade commander Col Francisco Patrimonio, said Capt. Naz.
In his message, Col PAtrimonio said “The bloodletting as one of the activities in celebration of 77th AFP anniversary is indeed successful because of the participation and support of the PNRC staff, the military and CAFGUs as well”.
Meanwhile, another group of army personnel conducted a tree planting activity on December 11 as part of the activity-celebration.
Capt. Naz said the 302nd Brigade coordinated with the Community Environment and Natural Resources Offices II (CENRO) in Dumaguete City for the provision of seedlings for the said activity. (FCR/JCT/PIA-Negros Oriental)

Dumaguete City wins regional Gawad Pamana ng Lahi

DUMAGUETE CITY, Dec 12 (PIA) -- The City Government of Dumaguete has won top prize in the regional level Gawad Pamana ng Lahi (GPL) Awards-City of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
Dumaguete City emerged as the champion after a series of validation from the regional GPL team composed of representatives from the different national agencies, said City Information Officer Syril Repe.
The Gawad Pamana ng Lahi Award is among the good governance program of the Aquino government through the DILG, which recognizes the transparency and accountability efforts of various local government units nationwide.
The mechanism involves an assessment of local government unit (LGU) contenders based on the on-line Local Governance Performance Management System, acknowledged innovations, awards received, compliance to anti-red tape act and full disclosure policy among others.
“Dumaguete City bested other cities within the region after a series of consecutive validations. This came handy with the strong commitment to transparent, participative and accountable public service of the officials, department heads and employees headed by Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria,” said Repe.
Last Monday, DILG Chief of Dumaguete City Felix Ablir, Jr. informed the Mayor’s Office about the certification coming from the DILG Central Visayas Regional Director Ananias Villacorta for the said award.
Other winners are Bohol for the province category and Jagna, Bohol for the municipal category.
The regional awardees will receive plaques of recognition, and checks of P3 million, P2 million and P1 million for the provincial, city and the municipality category awardees, respectively. The amount is to be used for the funding of their respective proposed projects.

Typhoon Pablo claims two lives in Negros Oriental

DUMAGUETE CITY, Dec 12 (PIA) -- Typhoon Pablo claimed two casualties in Tanjay City, Negros Oriental and one in Siquijor, a report by the local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said.
Prior to the typhoon's landfall, hundreds of families from Dumaguete City and other flood-prone areas in Negros Oriental were already evacuated to safer grounds.
Reports from the PDRRMC revealed that 100 families near the Tabianan River in Basay town were evacuated along with another 100 families in Barangay Mayabon, Siaton; 12 from Barangay Puhagan, 43 families from barangay Palinpinon and 13 families living along Ocoy River in Dumaguete City.
The 302nd Brigade deployed disaster trained military personnel for rescue operations to various areas in the 2nd district of Negros Oriental during the onslaught of typhoon Pablo last week.
The Alpha Company of the 12th IB focused its rescue operations in typhoon affected areas in the 2nd district by assisting in the evacuation of families to safer grounds as typhoon gained its strength, said Capt Naz.
While the 79th IB based in Siaton and 11th IB based in Guihulngan focused its rescue operations in the 3rd district and 1st district of Negros Oriental, respectively.
With the emergency condition, more than 187 enlisted personnel conducted disaster rescue and response operations which included clearing operations of fallen trees and debris in the national highway.
The Army’s information officer, Capt Anacito Naz said affected areas for the clearing operations were along the municipalities of Amlan, San Jose, Sibulan, BAong, Dauin, Pamplona and Zamboanguita and the cities of Bais, Tanjay and Dumaguete.
Likewise, personnel from 302nd Brigade and 79th IB were involved in the repacking of relief goods at Macias Sports Complex in Dumaguete City for distribution to the affected families.
Meanwhile, Col. Francisco M. Patrimonio, Commander of the Army’s 302nd Brigade where areas cover the whole provinces of Negros Oriental and Siquijor and some parts of Negros Occidental, disclosed that the soldiers including reservists and CAFGUs were deployed in the severely affected areas to conduct search and rescue operations.
A battalion size of men composed of military personnel from the 79th IB, 11th IB, 32nd DRC, reservist’s personnel from 703rd Community Defense Center and CAFGUs from “A” Company, 12th IB were also organized and were on call for possible rescue and relief operations. (FCR/JCT/PIA-Negros Oriental)
