NORECO-1 skeds district elections for BOD in 4 LGUs

DUMAGUETE CITY, July 29 (PIA) -- The Negros Oriental Elective Cooperative 1 (NORECO-1) has announced the forthcoming district elections for board of directors in August and September, this year.

The four districts elections under the coverage of NORECO-1 will be conducted in the towns of Mabinay on August 31; Manjuyod, September 7; Tayasan on September 14 and Canlaon City on September 21.

However, before the elections, Noreco-1 schedules a series of information campaign in four local government units through Kapihan forums in coordination with the Philippine Information Agency (PIA)-Negros Oriental Provincial Infocen.

The Kapihan forums are set on July 26 in Mabinay; July 31 in Manjuyod; August 2 in Tayasan; and on August 9 in Canlaon City.

Local and barangay officials, department heads, academe sector and church leaders in the LGUs are expected to participate in the Kapihan forums.

NORECO-1 sets the election guidelines which include candidates should be a bonafide member of the cooperative for at least 90 days before the election, at least 21 years old on the date of election and a resident of the district he or she seeks to represent for at least one year before the election.

Candidates should not be in any way employed by or financially interested in a competing enterprise or a business selling electric energy or electrical hardware to the cooperative and/or doing business with the cooperative, including the use or rental of poles, among others.

Aspirants must also have no unsettled or outstanding obligations to the cooperative at the time of filing the certificate of candidacy, including accountabilities of commercial or industrial connections of the candidate is the owner or co-owner; has not been apprehended of electric pilferage by the coop and has not been removed for cause as director or employee from any electric cooperative.

Also, government employees who wish to run in the election should secure a permit from the Department Secretary/Regional Director/Elective local official or duly authorized representative prior to filing the certificate of candidacy.

Candidate who ran in the local or national elections is disqualified from running for cooperative director within one year from the date of the local or national elections. (mbcn/JCT/PIA-NegOr)
