DUMAGUETE CITY, July 5 (PIA)--The Department of Science and
Technology- Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) opens its college
scholarship for the school year 2013-2014.
The DOST will award two Bachelor of Science degree scholarships to deserving and talented Filipino students, particularly those who belong to the top five percent of the high school graduating class.
The department will also award scholarships to students with high aptitude who are inclined to pursue science, mathematics and engineering courses.
DOST assistant provincial director Roslyn Tambago said these are under the RA 7687 Scholarship Program and Merit Scholarship Program of which the type of scholarship to be applied for will be determined following evaluation of the application requirements submitted.
Tambago said scholars will receive subsidies on tuition and other school fees, book allowance, monthly living allowance for 10 to 11 months every year.
The merit scholars will receive the same benefits except for a pro-rated monthly stipend depending on the family’s socio-economic status.
The priority courses that scholars can enroll include: Agriculture, Agricultural Biotechnology; Agricultural Chemistry; Agricultural Engineering; Applied Mathematics; Applied Physics; Biochemistry; Biology; Ceramics Engineering; Chemistry with Applied Computer System; Chemistry with Materials Science and Engineering; Chemical Engineering; Chemistry; Civil Engineering; Computer Engineering; Computer Science; Electrical Engineering; Electronics and Communications Engineering;
Other list of courses are also included for scholarships are Environmental Science; Fisheries; Food Technology; Forestry; Geology; Geodetic Engineering; Geological Science and Engineering; Industrial Engineering; Information Technology; Manufacturing Engineering; Materials Engineering; Mathematics; Mechanical Engineering; Metallurgical Engineering; Mining Engineering; Molecular Biology and Biotechnology; Physics; Physics with Applied Computer System; Physics with Materials Science and Engineering; and Science/Mathematics Teaching.
Tambago said interested students need to submit the following application requirements: accomplished application form; two copies 1”x1” applicant’s photo; photocopy of birth certificate; parents’ proof of income or certification of non-employment /indigency duly signed by the municipal mayor or barangay chairman if parent is unemployed; statement of account from the school; among others.
The deadline of application is August 23. The date of examination is on September 22, 7 a.m. at the Negros Oriental State University main campus in Dumaguete City.
Application forms have been also sent to all high schools in the province and to the District Representative Offices or can be downloaded at www.science-scholarships.ph.
